Chani Nicholas is a Canadian astrologer. She weaves progressive politics, activism, and queer identity into her work. The project is inspired by the counterculture movements of the 60s and 70s. "Counterculture is a sociological term that refers to a cultural group or subculture whose values and norms of behavior run counter to those of the social mainstream; it can be considered the cultural equivalent of political opposition". In the 1960s widespread movements regarding the war in Vietnam, racism, women's rights, and materialism, became the largest countercultural movement in the United States, also known as the "hippie movement".
